The Awesomeness That is Me!

Ok, I know that this isn't my usual self-depracation style rant. I'll go back to hating myself and my lack of talent tomarrow, but for today I just finished a small project that wasn't supposed to be all that important and blew myself away with how it came out.

The assignment:
Illuminated letters as exampled here:

We were to take our own initials and turn them into letters like these. With these letters we were supposed to tell something about ourselves as well. However I didn't like the look of the letters being on their own. In fact I wanted to bury the letters in images and make the images the center of the piece instead of the letters.

I did this in three ways. The first was to take the letters and place them onto three pages and have images on each of the pages. The images would help draw the eyes away from the letters.

Then there were the pages themselves. There are three with letters on them and a fourth with only scribbled writting on them. In fact the three with letters on them are colored darker than the fourth page which was left intentionally dark to help draw the eye up into the third element.

Which is the black space. Not only does it pop the pages out but draws the eyes up to the images floating around. The images themselves are varried and some overlap to help keep the attention away from the letters themselves.

The funnest part of this assignment is how easy it came. All of these distinctions came in a quick half hour sketch with a little afterthought.
And so I hail myself as a god for creating a great piece of art that will go in my portfolio.

*bows several times to the audience*

And now to celebrate and drink.
