Just got back from the Flogging Molly show at the Fist Ave. In Minneapolis! Man can those guys put on a show or what?
The first two bands were alright.
The first band was an alternative group from California (that If I can remember they're name I'll post it sometime) that had punkish overtones. They weren't half bad. They're drummer needs work to keep the band in sinc, but they're lead singer had me tapping my feet and moving along.
The second band Scottish Greens was an interesting mix between country and punk that was actually quite refreshing. A banjo and mandolin were very awesome additions to the punk sound. I'd love to hear more of this. So if anyone has heard anything like it send it my way.
But both paled in comparison to Flogging Molly. They had me doing jigs behind the bar. And if you know me at all you know that I don't dance (let alone jig) unless I'm really drunk or the band is fucking funamanel! And Flogging Molly was absolutely fantastical. They went for an hour and a half with an encore even after have played a sold out show the night before and getting trashed (so they were playing hungover). They're level of energy and how tight the music was just floors me. If you ever get the chance go see these guys. Irish punk is beautiful. This band will always hold a place in my heart.
The unfortunate thing about tonight, however, is that I'm now too drunk, jazzed, and excited to sleep so school will be put off as I relax and recover from this night. Aww well, I think I'll live.
Just send your condolences on my on coming hangover, and I'm sure when I'm less snipish then I will be tomarrow I'll thank you. =)
